Welcome to the Los Angeles Valley College Media Arts Department. Our department is composed of Broadcasting, Cinema, Journalism, Media Arts, and Photography. We are excited to announce that all of our programs will soon be moving to a new home, the Valley Academic and Cultural Center, expected to be completed in the mid-2020s.

Our Broadcasting degree and certificate programs enable students to gain valuable skills and creative techniques in the highly competitive and challenging world of Radio, Television, and Voice Over for over-the-air signals, cable, satellite and internet stations. We also have an exciting transfer degree with options for Broadcasting and Cinema/Media Arts students.

The Cinema and Media Arts curriculum focuses on training students to hone their storytelling skills through screenwriting classes and visual media classes in production and postproduction. It is our mission to prepare students to develop a broad understanding of the many facets of California’s ever-changing entertainment industry, and to learn appropriate skills to obtain internships and to be employed in entry-level positions in a variety of development, production, and postproduction venues.

Journalism and Photography students obtain skills for entry-level employment and career opportunities in print, online, and photography careers.

Media Arts Students in all of these disciplines at Valley College often find that their course load fosters strong bonds as they work and study together to meet tight production schedules and master the concepts introduced in their academic coursework. Students often rely upon one another to perform mutual crew duties on the many student productions each semester.
